The Campus Housing Index: The most comprehensive housing dataset in existence

Calling all campus housing directors! Have you submitted your 2024-2025 data for the Campus Housing Index (CHI)? If you’re not familiar, the CHI is the industry’s most significant – and most underutilized – decision-making tool. Managed by the Association of Colleges and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I), it is the most comprehensive campus housing dataset in existence, and it can provide you with insights that can’t be found anywhere else.

The CHI can help you understand how you compare to your institutional peers on operations, staffing, policy, compensation,  and more. It also creates standard industry terms and definitions, allowing you to make apples-to-apples comparisons with your peers and the industry at large. To get basic access to the data, you must complete 50% of the questions in a section of the CHI.

As proud partners, B&D works with ACUHO-I to give housing professionals a deeper understanding of the numbers that will drive better outcomes for your institution. Getting the most value out of the CHI requires asking the right questions and understanding the nuance of the data. B&D does both, and we do so while maintaining strict confidentiality measures for our clients and participating institutions (learn more about our partnership with ACUHO-I here).

The CHI is one of our industry’s most valuable tools for planning, advocacy, and unlocking growth. The CHI will only grow more valuable and informative with industry engagement. 2024-2025 data collection is open now through November 1 – and I cannot overemphasize the importance of your institution’s participation. Learn how to get involved here.

"The leadership and information from B&D, and the clarity with which they provide it, brings added credibility to the process and ensures that a range of university stakeholders, including senior leadership and our board, are fully informed for – and confident in – their required decision making.”
